Customer Rating: Summary: great tv Comment: Over 2 years of constant use and this tv is still going great. For a projection tv, the picture could not be better. I use it with Direct TV HD, and now also have a DVD player that "simulates" Hd with an HDMI connection. Couldn't be happier. The only con is that it takes up a ton of space. I built a small shelf that attaches to the top of the tv that holds the home theater, satellite recevier, and DVD player. Otherwise you have to have a seperate shelf alongside or elsewhere.
Customer Rating: Summary: Great Value Comment: I picked this up for $1100 about 6 months ago on Amazon and I'm pleased.
It's huge and I use it w/ an HD DVR from Dish Network. Today I just hooked up the HDMI cable from the DVR to the TV and it made a HUGE clarity difference for both standard & HD channels.
Customer Rating: Summary: Really nice set Comment: This is just an all around good set if you've got the space (it's a hulk) and a bit of cash. Very easy to set up and use, and has been a great addition to my home. If I have one gripe it's that standard definition TV looks a little murky. Everything else looks great.
Customer Rating: Summary: Sony 51" Projection TV... Comment: I bought this TV a little over a year ago from Sears...I think for a good price of $1,450.00 which included tax and delivery. I am quite happy with this TV for the price and the features it has to offer. It has a pretty clear picture for a projection TV, even better than some LCD models. The sound quality is good and can be pumped through a stereo system for outstanding sound that really feels like being at your own little theatre. I also like the ease of getting as clear a picture as possible with the "Flash Focus" button right on the front of the set or from the remote. Just press the button and the TV does a good job of clearing the picture from whatever input source. You can further adjust picture manually if so desired. Anyway, overall this TV is a good set that I expect to get many years of service from...and it's a Sony! [I have a previous Sony TV that fell flat on it's screen during an earthquake (1994) which only suffered a crack down the side and still works now.]
Customer Rating: Summary: Great TV, but has a problem Comment: After purchasing this TV and using it for a bit, when I pressed the SAP/MTS button, the TV started to flash the number 7 in the channel # area. On occassion it would turn to channel 7 by itself. When I tried to access the Menu, it would then start to open and close the Menu screen on it's own. I took the battery out of the remote to see if it was the remote causing the problem and it didn't help. I turned it off with the controls on the TV set and left it for an hour or so. When I came back it worked like normal. I've told my grandparent's *not* to touch the SAP button, so it's bummers that they can't listen to their stations in non-English, if they chose to keep this TV, which it seems like they have, due to the trouble of returning and buying another one.
Please note that this problem has occurred 3 times, and my recount above, was of the final time when I was physically present.
1st time this TV was purchased from Circuit City in Fremont, CA. My grandparents called Circuit City and they sent in a tech who couldn't fix it and exchanged their TV for them. The new TV they got due to the exchange exhibited the same problem. They finally returned it. I came home for vacation and took them to Fry's and they chose the same TV (I would've advised them against buying another KDP-51 if I had known of their previous problems with this model.) And #3 occurrance of this problem is what I recounted above. I don't know how my grandparents got the problem to show up in the first two incidences I was not present to witness.
Good ratings on everything otherwise. I liked the TV before the problem showed up.
