Summary: Still going.......
Comment: I bought this TV from a Tweeter store as a display discount. This TV was used continuously for a year during store hours before I bought it. I only agreed to buy it because it came really cheap at the time and they included a 5 year in-home service contract and warranty. About 6 months later I was moving and it was in the bed of my truck facing back. My expert securing job turned out to be amateur and the wind slammed the TV face first down into the bed of my truck, completely knocking the screen panels in. Got home, McGivered it a bit and got the screens back in - turned it on and volia - we were watching Shrek crystal clear 5 minutes later. Only sustaining consequence - a broken corner piece that fit right back in.

4 years later with an 18 month old son who likes to bang on it, it is still putting out like new.

Summary: Toshiba still running strong!
Comment: Long after the new plasma sets will be on the junk pile, this Toshiba is likely to still be working. With all of the new HD channels with surround sound, it has been a wonderful experience. The only maintenance has been to manually adjust the focus every 6 months. I have owned this set for almost 5 years.

Summary: Service Nightmare
Comment: I am on my second replacement since I purchased this TV in 2002. The picture was outstanding at first and it was the perfect size. One day we noticed there were some "ghosts" on the edges of cartoons. They were red. Then we noticed that everything seemed to have too much red. Brown was reddish brown. It was just after the one year warranty expired ( everyone's worst nightmare ). We returned it to the retailer three times. Each time they were unable to solve it. Calls to Toshiba were futile. We never got to talk to a person. Internet was no help. We finally convinced the retailer to give us a replacement after threat of lawsuit. The replacement has been great except for the wide part of the screen being a different shade than the middle part. This happened because we watched broadcasts that were not widescreen giving us a square picture with shading on the sides. If you watched regular broadcasts any other way the picture was distorted. Well after time the shaded parts burnt their shade into the screen permanently. Now when we watch widescreen movies, which is the reason we bought it, the outer parts of the image are a different shade than the middle. I also find that if
I use any other DVD player but Toshiba the picture is blue (component video being used). I would love to sell this horror show, but who would buy a TV with these problems. It looks like I'll be eating the cost of this one.

Summary: First time buyer
Comment: This TV is superb! I have spent the last 6 months trying to decide on which TV I wanted to buy (that wouldn't cost me an arm & a leg), and saw nothing that compared to the Toshiba. It has so many features, especially all the connections (for example 2 component video inputs). DVD movies on this are incredible. I can only imagine what it would be like to have a full surround sound system as well. The one thing I would like to point out is that if you have conventional cable (as I do), you will get a stretched picture (just the way things work out), but with the surge of HDTV and digital cable channels, it won't be long before every channel is HDTV. The other slight annoyance is the channel label option. Toshiba only allows you to input 32 channel labels...well who has just 32 channels anymore?? Like I said, more of an annoyance than a major downside. All in all, great TV!

Summary: GOOD SET BUT WITH MINOR DISAPOINTMENT
Comment: I BOUGHT THIS IN BEST BUY A MONTH AGO. THE SET IS GOOD FOR ITS PRICE AS A HDTV. HOWEVER, IF YOU USE THE AUTO FOCUS, YOU WILL FIND OUT THAT THE SCAN LINES ARE NOT TOTALLY STRAIGHT. I HAVE GONE TO OTHER STORES TO CHECK OTHER TOSHIBA SETS AND THEY ALL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. OTHER THAN THAT, ITS A GOOD SET AND MY WIFE SAID THAT IT DOES NOT BOTHER HER. SO, WATCH FOR WHAT YOU GET!
